Bargain Gourmet at Chutney’s Etc.

8 Jul

Chutney’s Etc. is a terrific little eatery on Hillview in Sarasota. If you are seeking a gourmet taste of Greek, Middle Eastern, or Indian cuisine, this is your place. Lunch entrees are quite affordable at just $7.95 — and that includes basmati rice, a greek salad, and some deliciously warm pita bread. Todd Morton of the nearby Morton’s Market first steered me to Chutney’s, which is run by a friendly husband and wife team. The restaurant has thrived for over two decades in a time when restaurants come and go with breathtaking speed. The reason for their longevity is simple: good food and good value.

Today I ordered the always-tasty peanut chicken. It consists of chunks of tender white meat bathed in a rich peanut/coconut sauce with just a hint of fresh cilantro and red chile pepper. Awesome — would strongly recommend you try it if you like the sweet/spicy combo. You can peruse the lunch and dinner menues and take a virtual tour of the cozy little dining space at www.chutneysetc.com.

Good Tune, Cheesey Video

8 Jul

Sandy Posey was born in Jasper, Alabama and raised in Memphis. Discovered by producer Chips Moman, Sandy cut this classic track (“I Take It Back”) in 1967. She was part of the whole “countrypolitan” movement along with performers like the incredible Skeeter Davis. Not sure who the guy in the video might be, but I sure hope they paid him a bunch of money to act like such a dork for posterity.
