Remember Ska?

24 Jun

Ska was (and still is) great. Very similar to to the island sounds of reggae, ska got started in Jamaica but had a strong resurgence in the U.K. back in the late 70’s and early ’80s. The music is catchy and the cast of shady characters who performed it were always feisty and on the cutting edge of thrift shop fashion. This vintage clip of “A Message to Rudy” by The Specials is a great example. It was originally featured on the British TV show The Old Grey Whistle Test. A “Rudy” is short for a “rude boy” or juvenile delinquent. Check out this Wikipedia link for a complete definition:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rude_boy
