Flora & Ella’s Pies

Flora and Ella’s billboard tempts motorists from near and far

Coconut cream pie is our pie of choice here. There are many others to choose from (all good), but their coconut cream is a masterwork of sugar and meringue. Flora and Ella’s is a popular stop in Labelle, FL, which is located along state highway 80. This roadside oasis was opened by two sisters way back in 1933. Locals and travelers alike pull in for good down home eats and friendly service. And most everyone knows to save room for dessert. NBC’s Willard Scott has called Flora and Ella’s pies the best in the nation — no small praise. Call ahead at (863) 675-2891 and they’ll have your pies ready to go. The Key lime is also said to be top notch. Many swear by the peach pie. We just haven’t been able to get past the delectable coconut cream. The everyday menu at Flora and Ella’s includes southern specialties like fried green tomatoes, fried catfish, hoppin’ john, “Country Boy” pot roast, and chicken n’ dumplings. Entrée prices are fair — ranging from about $6.95 to $8.95. Last time we checked, the pie runs about $2.50 per slice or around $13 for a whole pie. Flora and Ella’s makes crossing Florida’s lonesome alligator alley a real pleasure.
